Looking for interesting things to do this winter? Check out the following events going on in Austin, Texas this February.
Austin Marathon & Half Marathon
The 26th Annual Austin Marathon and Half Marathon takes place on February 19 this year. This race kicks off on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin and follows a looped course that ends in the same spot. Half Marathon runners will follow a slightly different course and finish up in front of the Texas State Capitol. Whether you run the Marathon or the Half Marathon, you can enjoy views of Austin’s historic neighborhoods and landmarks along the way. The course includes stops to keep you hydrated and entertained, including water stations and live music. If you’ve been training to run a marathon, this is a great opportunity to meet your goal while also getting to see more of the downtown area.
5th Annual Austin Oyster Festival
The 5th Annual Austin Oyster Festival takes place on February 25 this year from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. This event, which is presented by Jeri’s Seafood and HOPE Farmers Market, will be held at the French Legation Museum. The Oyster Festival provides you with a chance to savor oysters prepared in different ways, including raw, roasted, grilled and fried, along with Creole BBQ shrimp and other seafood dishes. A fine selection of beer, cocktails, wines and other drinks will be available as well. While enjoying your oysters, you can listen to live musical performances by local bands in different genres, including Bluegrass, Americana and Cajun. You can also support local charities by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes. Tickets are $45 for general admission, and there is no admission fee for kids under 12 years old.
